Voice over IP, or VoIP, is a new technology that runs your telephone lines off your Internet connection. You have probably seen the Vonage commercials on TV, advertizing "unlimited local and long distance" for $24.99 per month. You move your telephone number to them and they route your telephone calls across your Internet connection with a converter box that your number is tied to.
There's now a growing base of business-class VoIP that is similar in that you transfer your number over to them and they run it through a line. With business-class VoIP, you get at least 1 T1 data line. T1 lines are 1.544Mpbs in speed, but are not subject to the slow downs and outages like DSL and cable modems. They are always on and completely dedicated to your business.
You usually get 6 telephone numbers per T1, with the rest used for your Internet access. Monthly access varies, but if you spend more than $500 per month on telephone and Internet access, you will probably save money with business VoIP.
The other advantages of VoIP is the calling features. You get call waiting, call forwarding, caller id, call hunting, call roll over, voice mail, and even Fax-to-Email services (features vary by provider).
Where does Clearpoint Technology Solutions fit into this? We can cut you over to these VoIP services - both the Internet connection and the telephone systems.
